A sense of awe will descend when you see the beauty of Dubrovnik's old town, with its ancient city walls, baroque buildings and the shimmer of the Adriatic.
20 - 22 OCTOBER 2023 | 3 DAYS | £890 | LIMITED SPACES
The walled old town – parts of it dating back to the early 14th century – is framed by cascading green coastline, with cypress and olive trees, stone cottages and sea-view restaurants to take in along the way. And the best bit? It's still deliciously warm in October, (without the summer crowds).
On our Dubrovnik Weekender, we'll try out a mix of new shooting styles that will make your work zing, show you all the cool spots behind the scenes, plus all the bells and whistles you'd normally expect from Creative Escapes trip, all packed into three days.

DUBROVNIK
Itinerary.
All lantern-lit limestone alleys, pealing bell towers and russet rooftops, ancient Dubrovnik remains a show-stopper.
Dubrovnik has served as the location for the fantasy city of King’s Landing ever since the shooting of series two when it replaced Malta as the preferred backdrop for the capital of the Seven Kingdoms. Game of Thrones fan, or not, the locations along this route are stunning, and the perfect introduction to this magical city.
We’ll walk along the city walls, shooting as we go, learning new composition skills to set our images our from the pack, then climb aboard the gleaming orange cable cars towards Mount Srd, as the light fades, the old town nearly vanishing as a panorama of Adriatic blue dominates the horizon, to one of the best sunset spots in Europe.
Later, we'll head to a local taverna, for a vibrant evening of fantastic local food, music and dancing, under the twinkling island stars.
Today, we’ll concentrate on reportage, using strong light to test chiaroscuro techniques with light and shadow, first to the oldest market in Dubrovnik, located in the prominent, baroque square of Gundlieceva polijana.
Centrepiecing it is a statue of 17th-century poet Ivan Gundulić, who surveys the piles of fruit, vegetables and dried delights. A short stroll away by the old harbour, a modest fish market also does good trade – a hive of activity on Saturday mornings. After lunch, we’ll go looking for some more action, to the cliff jumpers at Boninovo Cliffs, then switch gears into candid portraiture, setting up camp deep within the city walls, looking for locals to test out environmental portraiture.
And given its Saturday night, we’ll skip the crowds for a more subdued and authentic experience, heading around port to the Porporela, the pier jutting east out of the Old Town. Here, locals put up a makeshift bar with fully-stocked fridges and a workable sound system. We’ll grab a glass of wine and dangle our feet over the edge and into the water. Bliss.
An uninhabited isle on Dubrovnik's doorstep, Lokrum is an unspoilt isle lush with pines, palms and cypress trees. Its verdant coastline beckons just a 15 minute ferry from the port, dotted with diverse ruins and remnants - medieval, ecclesiastical, Napoleonic, Habsburg - it has long been given over to nature.
We’ll use this remote location to master fine art black and white scapes, to produce images that connect with the landscape, then learn about printing and framing to complete the cycle.
Later, we’ll take a seat at the famed Buza Bar, fronting Lokrum, with uninterrupted panoramic views of the Adriatic, it’s one of the only places in the city when you can actually see the sun going down – reviewing our best images of the weekend - before dashing off to the airport to catch our evening flight back to London.
On our return, we'll pick the best of your images and give you a detailed review on your progress.
