One of the founders of Creative Escapes, Jon’s parallel life as a travel photographer has made him somewhat talented in sniffing out the best locations, eateries and bars only the locals know about.
His work can often be seen in the Daily Telegraph, Country Living, The Guardian and The Sunday Telegraph. He’s photographed seven books, including four Rough Guides – the latest, Earthbound, featuring the pick of the best images from all 200+ guides.
What does your perfect moment on a trip look like?
“Last light, everyone’s got their shot, someone’s already talking about dinner, and nobody wants to get back on the bus. That ten minutes is the whole job.”
What should someone nervous about a solo trip know before they come?
“That everyone else at dinner the first night felt exactly the same at lunchtime. By day two you’re a gang. I’ve watched it happen fifty times, it never doesn’t work.”
What surprises guests most about you?
“That I make everyone stop for ice cream. Daily. It’s not optional, it’s the itinerary.”
